Essential Clothes to Wear on a Beach Holiday

Are you stuck whilst packing for your next holiday, or perhaps you're putting together a shopping list for your next trip to the beach? In order to help your packing this season, I've put together a selection of my top three summer beach holiday essentials.

THE BIKINI
A comfortable and flattering bikini is key. Whether it's a high waist style, a standard pant, or even a thong, just ensure that you are feeling comfortable and confident whilst wearing it. There are so many different styles, patterns and prints on the market these days that it almost makes it impossible to choose!

THE DAY DRESS
There is nothing worse than feeling hot, sticky, sandy and uncomfortable on a beach holiday. So ensure you've got yourself covered with a light and airy summer day dress. I found that cotton materials were the best way to go to prevent clothes feeling heavy, sticky and non-absorbant. I packed two floral dresses on our last trip because I couldn't decide which one I loved more, and I'm definitely glad I packed both!

THE ACCESSORIES
This may seem like such a small item to include in your case, but trust me - it will become your favourite. The headband was such an essential for me on our trip to Cape Verde. I feel my best when I have my hair down, but the heat and the wind made it impossible to stop my long thick hair sticking to my face. Not only is the headband a cute accessory to add to any outfit (and totally on trend this season) it also becomes your most essential and the best way to keep your hair out of your face!

My Message To Gym Beginners | What To Avoid

womens fitness

So you're new to the gym and you're not quite sure what to expect or perhaps you're a little nervous? Don't worry, those feelings are perfectly normal and once you get into the swing of things, you'll soon be at ease and working out confidently.

I've been training consistently in weight training for around three years now. It has become an activity that allows me to push myself out of my comfort zone, work on myself for myself, and also keeps me sane in the most stressful of times. Like many, I didn't begin my gym journey confidently. I initially found the thought of going to the gym so intimidating. All through my childhood and teenage years, I passionately hated exercise - PE lessons and sports days were my unconfident teenage self's nightmare. If anything, I've proven to myself and to those around me that once you find a form of exercise that you like, you can keep at it and enjoy the process of improvement too.

You may want some reassurance before you sign up so I've put together a list of things that gym beginners should avoid at all costs.

gym activewear
Don't be put off by delayed onset muscle soreness
It's perfectly normal and expected. Ensure you stretch after training, get enough protein in your diet to aid muscle recovery, and most importantly, don't let it stop you. It's only temporary!

Stretching is important
You may think of it as the boring part of working out, but try treating it like a mindfulness practice. You'll quickly learn how much it helps your mind AND body.

Do not restrict your calories, but don't binge either
Make sure you're fuelling yourself enough to conduct your workouts and build muscle mass. If you're ensure, ask a qualified member of staff at your gym for a meal or nutrition plan.

Don't pressure yourself
You're doing great - praise yourself and keep going!

Don't overdo it!
I gradually built up my workouts because I knew overloading myself was only going to exhaust me and leave me demotivated. When I first started training, I trained twice a week. I now train between 3-4 times a week, and I find it works well amongst my routine. However, everyone is different. I wouldn't suggest training more than 3 sessions per week at first because your body needs to adjust to the lifestyle change.

Do not feel too shy to ask for help
It may surprise you, but fitness enthusiasts are actually some of the nicest people I have come across. I believe it to be because everybody started somewhere, and they're continuously working hard on their own journey. As I mentioned above, all gyms will have qualified staff more than willing to help and advise you where needed. Don't be afraid to ask.

Don't mis-use machines
This can be dangerous and greatly increase your risk of injury. If you're ensure, ask someone to show you how to use the machine or ask a member of staff for a guide of the gym's machines.

Avoid signing without reading the T&Cs
If for whatever reason, you may need to change or cancel your membership later on, be sure to check that you can get out easily and that there is not a fee for ending your contract early. I know this has been an issue for students in the past, so ensure you're happy with the terms and conditions prior to signing up.

Go Natural | Complexion Affection With Evie

What makeup do I need for a natural look?

Truthfully, none at all.

I recently set live a new hashtag that I am using to encourage other women to feel comfortable and confident in their own skin, #ComplexionAffectionWithEvie. From an early age, women are taught that wearing makeup makes them more beautiful, but this belief is not only false, it is also highlighting "insecurities" that should not exist. I've been sharing my no makeup selfies with the hashtag #ComplexionAffectionWithEvie to prove to others that natural beauty isn't from the inside of a bottle. It's been with you all along.

I never once thought that I would share my natural bare face on the Internet in such high quality, but here we are breaking through those societal expectations and inner inhibitions! Redness, freckles, scars, pores, hairs, dark circles, uneven pigments - yes, all feature on this makeup free face and they also feature on rest of the world's population too.

As much as I adore makeup and trying out the latest products, I cannot deny the feeling of freedom in just letting your skin breathe for a while and feeling like you have nothing to hide or cover up. Especially in the recent heatwave that we have been having here in the UK, going makeup free over the last few days has been blissful to say the least!
-
Give it a go for yourself. Share your no makeup selfie, tagging the hashtag to join the movement and encourage other women to feel happy in their own skin.

Are Gym Memberships Actually Worth It?

gym goer

Simply put, in my opinion, yes.

I opened my first gym membership in 2016, and since that day my lifestyle changed for the better. I didn't walk into the gym oozing confidence. Initially, I felt like a complete fish out of water and completely out of my comfort zone. However, with personal training support, my own perseverance and research online, I was soon comfortable enough to get into that once dreaded weights section and now I wouldn't be without it! Whilst you don't need a gym to get fitter, I've put together a list of reasons why I believe owning a membership is beneficial.

Why a gym membership is worthwhile...
Money motivation
If you're somebody who struggles with motivation, knowing that you're paying money for something will often encourage most people to ensure that they make the most out of it. You could easily calculate how much you are spending per session through your membership, and this will give you the motivation to keep going!

It's fantastic for your mental health
Being renowned for relieving stress, exercise is most definitely at the top of on my own list for helping with down moods or anxious moments. Personally, I find having a regular routine with my gym membership helpful because I feel more able to switch off.

Find and develop a new interest
The thing that amazes me most about training is that I surprise myself every single time. Just when I think I can't or I'm not strong enough, I have a go and try something new.

Improve your physical health
The Government recommends that we get at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity per week. Are you getting the recommended amount?

Social situations
There is something truly motivational about being surrounded by likeminded individuals. You may be training in a room full of strangers, but each of those strangers is there for the same reason as you: to push themselves further. Classes are also a fabulous way of meeting other people and bonding!

Challenge yourself
Sometimes you may fail, other times you may succeed, but every step is a step in the right direction to achieving your own personal fitness goals.

Expert advice is on hand through personal training staff
I'd recommend training with a personal trainer at first to gain some knowledge and aid your confidence if you're struggling. They will also teach you exercises and correct form to avoid injury. Plus, it helps being held accountable if you find committing tough!

A range of equipment is available for training each muscle group
Whilst you can get some fabulous workouts done at home or in the park, I find that having the specific weighted gym machines very useful when training by muscle group. I currently train by a push/pull/leg split, and it works well for me.

How I Style The White Blouse

white blouse outfithow to style the white blouse

It's one of my all time favourite combinations - the classic white shirt and skinny jeans.

I like to switch it up between black denim and blue denim, but generally, I find a crisp white blouse unbeatable for everyday smart-casual fashion.
In the daytime look above, I've opted for a broderie elegant blouse with puffed sleeve detail, and I have partnered it with a contrasting black outfit. The combination of the croc effect handbag and the gothic style heeled boots adds a contemporary twist on classic dressing.

How I Style The Satin Midi Dress

how to style the satin dress

satin midi dress outfit

As you know, I'm a fan of satin and when I found this dress online, I couldn't wait to style it up!

Satin isn't often something we consider when we shop for dresses, but the way it gleams in the light and how the material glides over the body is stunning.

For a chic and simple look...

1. Layer with a blazer or a cropped jacket to compliment and draw attention to the outfit as a whole.
2. Partner it up with black heeled boots for a classic but fierce look.
3. Wear it with a smile. There is no better accessory than a smile, and it will never go out of style.

AD - It's Time to De-stress

As we look upon the bank holiday weekend with open arms and a sigh of relief, it's time to discuss the art of de-stressing. I call it an art because now days, it is increasingly difficult to switch off from one thing to the next: from work, to family life, or simply just me time. I've been an over-thinker and a worrier my whole life, but as I'm now in full swing adulthood and responsibilities pile on, I actively reflect on these moments. I reflect not to stress about them further, but instead to learn why they happen and how I can improve.

If you find it tough to switch off your mind after a long day, or you worry endlessly about the future, I guarantee that you are not alone. Honestly, the most important thing to try to do is to live in the present moment. Of course, don't actively ignore your future, because planning ahead is also important. What I mean to say is, if you are sat stressing out about things that you can't control, take a breath. Ask yourself, why am I letting this take over my own time? Why am I so concerned with what others think of me, to the point where I cannot relax?

Over the last few years in particular, I've learned and developed a few techniques of my own to help me de-stress and switch off my mind. When I recognise these moments of stress, I often decide to switch off from my mobile phone and put it away on charge. This gives my mind a moment to stop checking emails, stop comparing on social media (even if I am not meaning to), and to not worry about replying to messages when I simply need to take a break.

I find taking a walk and breathing in the fresh air extremely helpful. Having grown up in a rural village in the English countryside, this always reminds me of my roots. Not only that, but the marvel of nature is really quite something when you take a second to appreciate it. How a tree grows stronger and taller over hundreds of years - the expression "gentle giants" comes to mind. How flowers blossom from a bud to a bloom, each unique in every way. I also like to bring a little nature indoors by dressing my home with lovingly arranged bouquets.

This week, I have selected a bouquet filled with vintage blue irises and white avalanche roses from Haute Florist's "Blue Beauty" bouquet. This elegant arrangement compliments my modern-look apartment wonderfully. Bright blooms such as these, light up the room and bring a reminder of colour and joy to any home. If you're a reader of my blog, you'll already know my love for roses. The iris is also one of my favourites, and a goddess of the varieties at that. Symbolising elegance and wisdom, the Greek for iris is translated as rainbow. As many say, "with rain comes rainbows" and any reminder of that should most definitely be welcomed in times of hardship. I am someone who would much rather treat myself to a bouquet than a box of chocolates or a drink at the bar!

Creating a Statement in Leopard Print

When it comes to statement fashion, it's always a risk that either pays off or completely crashes. I often like to play it safe, and I know what trends suit me and what don't. It is very easy to get swept up in what the world is loving, even if it doesn't really represent who we truly are or what we actually like. This is even more emphasised within the online chaos of social media. A trend that always comes back around is leopard print, and admittedly, I am a fan. Although, it must be done right.

With statement garments such as prints or bright colours, I feel the need to style them accordingly to my taste. When styling a statement piece such as this monochrome leopard knit top, I emphasise the statement by styling it with an otherwise block colour outfit. This all black look works well with the monochrome print as it ties together its colours. The one colour enables the print to stand out whilst incorporating its details. As an overall package, it works.

Similarly, statement accessories are one of my own favourable ways to make a statement. For example, statement handbags can look absolutely fabulous with otherwise casual outfits. This is because they draw the attention of the eyes to one sole focus.

When it comes to statement dressing, most of us automatically assume neon, glitter, metallics, and bold prints, but why not make your own statement? Your statement is all down to your own styling. You can make a neutral tone accessory look absolutely incredible next to dark colours, or all white outfits.

Don't be simpleminded when it comes to statements. You can always create your own.

AD - Give the Gift of Gratitude This Mother's Day

Sometimes it's very easy to become swept up in daily life, deadlines, and dramas - so much so that we don't communicate as much as we should or show care as much as we should.

As Mother's Day approaches, it gives us that opportunity to appreciate our one and only in the most delightful and traditional way.

This week I've teamed up with Haute Florist to showcase the beautiful bouquet that they have lovingly created for Mother's Day. Including two of my own favourites: Peach Avalanche Roses and Orchids, this bouquet is packed with feminine tones and floral scents. It oozes elegance and is intricately designed with a special recipient in mind.

Researching into traditions of floral gifting, it pleased me to see that culturally, flowers all signify deeper and loving meanings across communities. With roses being the most meaningful flower across the globe, it is no wonder that they are a key component within this bouquet. I've always said that flowers are the ultimate gift, and their ability to make a woman smile and feel special is undoubtable. This was proved recently by my ever so caring partner. I've had a strange few weeks, and my mindset had taken a hit. When my tough time was reaching its peak, he came home with a bouquet that he had specifically picked out for me. Whilst care isn't shown through materialism, this was one of the few moments that made me smile that week. I understood what truly mattered most. He believed in me, supported and cared for me. It was the reminder that I needed, that the most important things in life are true happiness and the love and support of those around you. Your warmth, and care for those that you love is what matters, and vice versa.

As a private person, I don't often talk about my loved ones, because they are just that. However, I'm at a time in my life where I feel like I am sort of making it up as I go along. I'm a graduate and in my first year out of the University comfort blanket, and don't get me wrong, I'm learning more than I ever have. I know that risks are being taken and decisions are being made, often without the knowledge of what is happening next or where I will be this time next year. As a child, your parents are always there every step of the way, even when you take that for granted, and years fly by with little change. Adulthood is tough. I can't sugar coat it, it is what it is. Having the support network of my family for advice or courage is unbeatable, and I cannot express my gratitude enough that I have that from them, especially when the future seems unpredictable.

That being said, the name Mother's Day connotes gratitude towards your mother, but this doesn't have to be the case if it isn't the right fit. Whether it's your mother, your step-mother, your best friend, your Auntie, your Grandma, or Susan from down the road, please don't be afraid to show someone that you are grateful for their never ending support. Give them the uplift and gift that they deserve this year to say thank you for all the times that they have uplifted you. It will make you feel good too.

Blue Skies and Bag Swings

Making the most of the glorious sunshine that we were granted last weekend, I shot a few outfits outside, including this fabulous jumpsuit! Since my Instagram followers have been showing it a lot of love this week, I thought I would feature it here too.

I always find it surprising how much better a little bit of sunshine can make us feel. Waking up to beaming natural light in my living room instantly lifted my mood and I felt encouraged to make the most out of my day. The clear blue sky was the icing on top of the cake. I spend my winter months longing for summer, and this year I feel like I am awaiting it more than ever.

AD - 5 Ways to Say I Love You

When something is so beautiful, it's hard not to want to share it! After being gifted these roses from Haute Florist, it inspired me to write a Valentine's themed blog post.

~ 5 Ways to Show You Love Her ~

1. A bouquet of flowers. Of course, I had to begin with this one! Flowers can really brighten up someone's day, and for me they are the ideal gift. As the ultimate symbol of love, giving something of such natural beauty will definitely translate your feelings and care for that special person. If you're inspired by the fifty five roses arranged in a ribbon tied hat box above, you can shop the same hat box here or alternatively, there are other options available on the Haute Florist website for a range of different budgets.

2. A sentimental card is always important and it is also a great way to voice your feelings, especially if you find it difficult to say it aloud. Be sure to pay attention to the design that you pick out! Get one that reminds you of her, or get creative and design one of your own with pictures of you both and your favourite memories.

3. If you want to be extra sweet, a frame of you and her would be a lovely and very thoughtful gift. Pick a picture of you both off of her Instagram/Facebook so that you know she definitely likes the image before you get it printed and framed!

4. Cook her a romantic meal. Light some candles, or add some fairy lights to add to the romance. Treat her to her favourite foods, she will appreciate the extra thought. A special date will create a memory that will last a lifetime.

5. Nothing beats a personal touch. Add a thoughtful element to your Valentine's date to show her that you listen to her. Think of her hobbies, her likes, and her obsessions, this could be as simple as playing her favourite movie after your romantic meal!

Wishing you all a lovely Valentine's Day this week, but remember, the above points can be used at any time, not just when the world tells you to share your love!

Happy Valentine's!

5 Ways to Improve Your Sleep

SLEEP.

The five letter word that can cause us so much anxiety, and completely impact how we see the world day-to-day. I've never been a morning person. I could stay up all night googling, scrolling, or watching and then never want to get up in the morning. This got me into a very unhealthy sleeping pattern as a teenager, that spiralled when I went to University. I was partying at night, and then sleeping most of my day away, as a lot of students do. I had glandular fever in my first year of University and I was understandably exhausted. However, this exhaustion continued, as the long battle of fighting post-glandular fever fatigue began. I fell into a routine of getting twelve hours of sleep, sometimes more, a night.

When I finally got over the fatigue, I had an awful relationship with sleep. I always thought that I had to get enough sleep, but getting too much also became harmful. I felt so unproductive, lethargic, and therefore, miserable! I knew that I had to try and get a better routine, and so I step by step worked on improving my night time habits in order to aid my quality of sleep.

The first thing I did was to ensure that I had no screen time before sleep whilst in my bed. The light from your phone screen keeps your eyes and brain awake, making it much harder to switch off and fall asleep. Switch off to switch off! I actually took it to another level, and I now leave my phone in a different room to avoid temptation. In my line of work, I'm constantly looking at screens, so I always take this as a moment to pause and give my eyes a rest!

"Switch off to switch off!"

I replaced scrolling through my news feed with a book. A good old fashioned book, with paper pages and that comforting new book smell. There was no Kindle in sight! I used to read as a child, before the internet was really a thing, but then in my teens, I gave up reading for Facebook instead. I find that sad now as I look back, but at least I am now making up for it! I began with a few books that could improve my knowledge on topics that were important to me, such as business, mental health, and fitness. Although, I'm currently enjoying fiction as my brain wanders off from my world into someone else's. I recently read Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman and I loved it, so if you're thinking of a book to read, I would most definitely recommend that!

Winding down in the evening is very important when it comes to the quality of your sleep and how quickly you can fall asleep too. I typically train in the gym after work, which tires me out, although for some this may have the opposite effect! I end up eating fairly late, which isn't always ideal, but my body is now used to it. I like to relax with an hour or two of TV. I avoid caffeine past 5 o'clock, and I don't over-do eating sugar, despite enjoying a small after dinner sweet treat!

I find essential oils extremely helpful when I feel particularly stressed out. I drip a few drops of Olbus Oil under my pillow to aid my breathing during the night. Some of my favourite, but higher budget, aromatherapy products include: Aromatherapy Associates Muscle Gel (the best product for anyone with tense muscles or a sore neck and traps!), Neom Pressure Point Roller (this roll-on scent is so calming, I apply it to my wrists and then take a few deep breaths in and out through my nose), Aromatherapy Associates facial oil in Inner Strength (this facial oil is great for dry skin, with a gorgeous relaxing scent).

Finally, I invested in an affordable alarm clock. There's no bells or whistles, it simply does the job. Since setting my alarm clock to wake me up in the morning, I have developed a much better routine and sleeping pattern. As a result, I feel much more rewarded, and productive with my day. I now get around eight hours sleep a night. Eight hours is still a fair amount for someone of my age, but I realised my body definitely works best on this amount of sleep, and my mood is greatly improved.

In summary:

- Leave your phone in a different room
- No screen time in bed
- Calm your brain and read a book
- Wind down in the evening
- Consider mindfulness and aromatherapy products
- Purchase an alarm clock

New Year Reflection | The 2018 Edition

It's been a year of new eras, moving on, and growing up. If you've not yet taken a chance to reflect on 2018, let's look back together on what went right. Rather annoyingly, it is so easy for our brains to automatically judge our year as negative, reminding ourselves of all the things that didn't quite go to plan. However, with rain comes rainbows, and this is our chance to change how we reflect, instead of jumping to negative conclusions and statements. Whether you improved your skills, you got that promotion at work, you achieved or worked towards a goal, you finished or started education, or something a little smaller like having a go at something that you once thought you couldn't.

"Finish your year on a good note,

take from it what you need,

and keep going."

I'll kick this off, and share with you a few positives from my own past year. I guess the main one is finally gaining my degree. It was quite possibly the hardest experience of my whole life, but overcoming the obstacles, working my way through the difficult times, succeeding and sometimes not reaching my own expectations, all led to a final success which I overcame with pride. What did I learn? I learned that I need to believe in myself more. I didn't at all, and those around me at that time knew it too. Since completing my undergraduate course, my belief in myself has been on the rise. I think that it helps when you're doing something that you are truly passionate about career-wise, but generally, I feel much more capable. Without going into too much detail, I was completely fighting the odds when writing my dissertation. The only way to describe what I was going through was absolute chaos. I fought myself every time into research, meetings, and library sessions whilst writing my thesis. It focused on the objectification of our bodies within the digital world, a topic that was relevant and had context to our millennial culture. I not only passed that dissertation, I got a grade of 72. A first class dissertation that I had earned through every single word, every single struggle, and every single stress. That was a proud moment of 2018.

I graduated amongst my friends and my family, with a second class first division degree in BA Art. Although, I didn't reach a first class overall, I don't beat myself up over it because I know how much it took from me, what I gave, and what I didn't have left to give. I spread my time across my passions, my degree, but also a job, and that was my decision.

"I don't beat myself up over it because

I know how much it took from me, what I gave,

and what I didn't have left to give."

Post graduation, I began my career in social media marketing as a Social Media Manager for an activewear brand. I manage blogging around my day-job, and I still completely adore it. Up until a few months ago, I was juggling three jobs. I was enjoying each job, but I felt under so much pressure. I barely had any time for myself or my loved ones, and so I made the decision to cut down my commitments. I had so many jobs on my brain at once, jumping from one to the other, and I couldn't switch off. This was a big step in my own decision making, something I've never been overly strong at. Since then, I've felt more independent than I ever have and I live each day my own way.

"In my early teenage years,
I always thought that at twenty-two
 people had their life together,
but I'm definitely beginning to realise that
we are all just making it up
 as we go along!"

On the Evie Rose Lane side of things, my blog and social media platforms have once again brought me to some fabulous places and events this year. Places, such as The Ivy Chelsea and The Dorchester were most definitely at the top of my favourites list! I've been able to place more time and effort into my content since completing my degree, and that is something that I have massively enjoyed, particularly on Instagram. Investing this time has brought more value to my brand, more enjoyment to my work, and has curated a story-telling theme to the imagery that I share with you all.

Another passion of mine that I have managed to stay consistent with this year is fitness. Despite changing gyms, moving home, and changing up my daily routine, I have managed to keep my training regular. I have pushed further, tried out new exercises, and I continue to build on being the best version of myself.

Of course, negatives have also tested me this year, like they probably will have all of us. As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, we must take from the experiences what we need, and keep going. It does no good for us to automatically exclaim how awful our year has been, disregarding everything that we did well or the good things that happened to us. I used to be that person, dwelling on the awful things that I had gone through, when I should have been proud of the me that was fighting through each day, and overcoming that negativity. I may have had a turbulent year in some aspects, but not in all, and I'm certainly not going to let those "some aspects" determine and re-write my all.

A few reflection questions to ask yourself...

The answers can be as small or large as you like. I've noted fairly large moments above, but other examples include reading several books this year, getting up earlier, and teaching myself more about editing photography. Why not note down your answers with the questions, and you can try this all again next year.

- What did I do this year that went well?
- Where did I go that I really enjoyed?
- What did I improve on this year?
- What did I stay consistent at this year?
- What did I work towards completing or have I completed this year?
- What am I proud of myself for?
- What was a really great moment to remember this year?

Here's to 2018, and wishing you all a very Happy New Year!

Live Your Luxe Life

Home is where the heart is.

As I’ve previously mentioned on my instagram, I absolutely love being at home and in my own space. I’m incredibly lucky that where I live now is a fairly quiet community so there is little to no drama.

Around my work, training, and spending time with my loved ones, I like to invest my time in keeping our flat clean, tidy, and elegant. Although it’s sometimes a struggle with little storage space, we manage to maintain a comfy yet pretty environment which we lovingly call our own. Just don't take a look in the wardrobe!

I adore nothing more than being at home in a fresh pair of sleek, and comfortable pyjamas. Sleep is so important to me and I really do hate missing it, perhaps that’s why I often find myself debating if a night out for no reason is actually all that. From once having a really bad relationship with sleep when I was in my first few years at University (one extreme to the other), to now having a good routine, I have a lot to say about my bedtime tips and previous mistakes, but perhaps I will save that for another post.

Investing in the little luxuries of life, no matter how small can make all the difference, whether it's a time or money investment. I'm not just talking about the materialistic luxuries either, we should be grateful for the luxuries of life that we don't expect. That fantastic night's sleep, or that warm feeling that you get when you do something nice for another person. Luxury is classed as "a state of great comfort or elegance, especially when involving great expense" but this isn't purely defining products and wealth. I encourage you all to live your luxe life!

How I Shop The Summer Fashion Sales

As a shopaholic, I adore summer sales and any sale in general. However, when you're shorter on time, it's sometimes hard to browse through endless rails or have the patience to do so either. I've created a little shortlist of tips to help the sale rails appear less daunting, and to aid you in finding the best pieces for your summer wardrobe whilst being on a budget!

DO YOUR RESEARCH FIRST ONLINE

I actually first saw this dress on the online Zara sale, but with little funds at the time, I left it abandoned in my basket. Shopping the sale in-store, I kept an eye out for the dress that I knew I had my eye on, and by chance, it was there. I prefer to try things on before I buy, because a lot of things now just aren't how they appear online or they don't fit me how I would want them to. However, not everything online will be in-store, so it's always worth checking both. I often find when a sale is first announced, it is best to be one of the first people looking at it online. Whether its on your commute to work, or on a chilled evening at home, you have to be committed if you want to make the most out of the sales. The convenience of online shopping also helps, as you don't even need to leave your house now to get something new for your wardrobe, so really, there isn't much commitment at all, you just need to beat other people to it!

GO EARLY IN THE MORNING

Sale rails are stressful for everyone, because no one seems to respect them enough to keep them tidy! Although sales assistents try their best, I can tell you from first hand experience, when it's busy, it is impossible to keep a sale rail looking on point throughout the working day. This is why, if I am shopping in-store, I like to be an early bird and get there while it's tidy and the shops are pretty much deserted. I find the best pieces, in my own time, and I don't need to hunt through piles of clothes on the floor or queue for the changing rooms!

MAKE A BUDGET & AVOID BUYING UNECESSARY ITEMS

In general, I try to stick to this tip when I am shopping. You must remember that stores, shops, and supermarkets are designed to tempt you into buying extra things that you often don't need. To avoid this, keep a check on your budget and don't be tempted by the products lined up by the till unless you actually need them.

ALWAYS TRY IT ON

This is more of a recent tip that I have established. As a child, I never ever wanted to try things on, because I found it boring and most things fitted me anyway. However, since my body type has changed and from dropping a few dress sizes, my size seems to vary between shops. I am actually not 100% sure by any size, I have to just try it on these days and if it works, it works, and if it doesn't then sadly, it can't come home with me.

CHECK THE RETURNS POLICY

If you're rushed for time, I understand that sometimes its not feasible to try everything on. That is why you must always check with the sales assistant what their returns policy is. It varies between shops anyway, but some stores have different policies for their sale items also. Shoutout to Topshop for keeping their sale returns the same as normal with your receipt and sending the money directly back onto your payment card. No thank you to that credit note or exchange only!

FORGET IT'S DISCOUNTED, WILL YOU ACTUALLY WEAR IT?

I am still training myself on this one, and I'm improving I must say! I am quite limited on space, and I try to be sensible with my money, but every one knows that I love clothes. In the past, I've often bought things and not been 100% in love with the item, or I have bought it and never felt confident or comfortable enough to wear it. It is such a waste, and therefore now I will only buy something if it wows me and I know that I will wear it! Don't be fooled by a good deal, it may be a huge discount but its not a good deal if it doesn't benefit you and if you don't ever wear it.

ENQUIRE ABOUT STUDENT DISCOUNT, IF YOU HAVE IT

Often a lot of shops still offer student discount on sale items, so if you have it, make sure you ask and make the most out of it while you can!

There you have it, my favourite tips for getting through the summer sales. If you have any tips that I haven't mentioned, be sure to leave a comment below & I'll add them to the list! Happy shopping all!

Keeping it Cool In & Outside of the Gym

"I'm a believer that gym visits don't have to be boring, so why should your gym-wear be?"

Surrounded by workout videos and inspiration now at our fingertips, no one really delves into what you can wear outside of the gym, after, or on your way to your sweaty session. I typically favour matching sports bra and legging sets in the gym, but outside of the gym, I like to layer up with a sweater or a hoodie for a cool and casual look. Attractive womens hoodies can be hard to come by, but the new range by NICCE has got us all covered. From pretty pastels, to urban styles, I’m sure most people will feel catered for by NICCE with this range.

Today, I'm sporting the sand coloured NICCE hoodie, which provokes a classic and relaxed style through an oversized fit. As a fan of pastel and neutral tones, this nude colour flatters my brunette colourings and skin tone, whilst contrasting with my dark workout clothes. Personally, I gravitate towards lighter tones in the summer as they're softer, and easier to wear, hence why this neutral was a winner for me!

Although I’m referencing the gym in this post, I also adore wearing hoodies while I'm chilling at home, or to cover up in the cooler summer evenings. There’s not much better than relaxing in your own space, propped comfortably in front of Netflix, wrapped up in your premium soft oversized hoodie!

GET THE LOOK

Since becoming a bit of a gym bunny, I like to think I've nailed what to wear when training and what to wear afterwards too. I've narrowed it down into simple catagories: the WELL FITTING BRA, the BOTTOM SCULPTING LEGGINGS, PERFECT FOOTWEAR, and the POST-WORKOUT CHILL GARMENTS.

1. The perfect sports bra can be hard to come by. I find the bigger the straps, the better they are at supporting you, whilst also being comfortable. As pretty as some of the thinner strapped bras are, I find the complex strap designs get confusing and they end up twisted, taking an element of comfort away.

2. If your gym leggings aren't flattering you, then girl, you are doing it wrong and there are better out there. Key things to look our for when picking leggings are: make sure they're squat proof, the appropriate length, tight but not too tight, shaped around the muscles, contain dry tech fabric so that sweat is a no show, and that they are designed to offer a flattering fit.

3.  Obviously, in the gym you are expected to wear appropriate trainers. However, I find that flatter style trainers are better for when you're training with weights, especially on leg days as they aid your stability and balance. I adore the style of knit trainers, however if you are training hard then consider getting a stronger shoe or be prepared for toe rips. Also, if your shoes are light in colour then always wear white socks!

4. As gym-wear is often deliberately skin tight for muscle compression and built to show off your shape, it’s somewhat comforting to be able to throw on a looser fit hoodie and call it ‘effortless chic’ after you’re done training. Oversized fits, like the NICCE hoodie that I am wearing in today's post are ideal for this. You can pick your own favourite from the range here, and let me know which style is your favourite fit in the comments.
